Built on brownfield site, the new 5000sq m Wolverhampton Leisure Centre, constructed by Carillion, packs a lot of action into a small footprint as shown in the commercial photography.  First impressions on entry are of a large double height reception space which gives a 'tardis' effect, with steps to dance/exercise studios and gym area on the first floor.

This centre is suited to commercial photography with variable height floor learner pool, 'serious' swimming pool and fun rapids.

The most impressive aspect of the structure is the way in which glazing has been used to flood the pool area with light.  Coloured glass panels bathe the pool with coloured light but it is at night that the glazed facade brings drama to the building - a dream for commercial photography.

The enclosed flumes curl out and back into the structure to add further exterior drama and the LED lit stainless steel fan sculpture 'floats' in the tranquil pond overlooked by the gym.

Lammas Leisure Centre at Sutton in Ashfield near Mansfield is a tardis of a building and a triumph as illustrated in the surrounding commercial photography.  It certainly isn't small from the outside but it's what's been packed inside that is astonishing.  500 tonnes of steel were used in the structure that would conventionally have twice this footprint.

Unusually the full size, 4 badminton court sports hall is on the first floor, along with a massive crown green bowling space, a multi use dance / meeting space and a 90 station gym.

As shown in the commercial photography, for a building with so many facilities packed into it there is a real sense of space especially around the reception area that can be so hectic at peak periods.

As you would expect there is a six lane, 25m pool, fun water learner pool and changing village.    

However one thing that sets Lammas apart from most is the 18m x 36m ice rink complete with disco lights and DJ area shown in the attached commercial photography.

When these facilities are combined with a design approach sympathetic to environmental considerations and the installation of a combined heat and power heating system - you have a formula that really delivers for this community.
