Broughton Museum gets green light

Hugh Broughton Architects' £2.7 million Maidstone Museum project

Hugh Broughton Architects’ £2.7 million Maidstone Museum project (pictured) will go on site in the new year after being awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of almost £2 million.

The firm won a 2007 RIBA competition to design an extension to the 1858 museum and Bentlif Art Gallery that will be profiled in architectural photography. It beat schemes designed by Atkins, Featherstone Associates, Snell Associates and Mackay & Partners.  The scheme involves the construction of two glass and gold copper alloy shingle-clad extensions to create a new entrance, education and exhibition space.
