The Queen and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh have officially opened the Swansea Leisure Centre.

Poject managed by consultant Davis Langdon, the LC is a multi-functional leisure centre which has been transformed into a water park, boasting the world’s first deep water surf machine illustrated in this commercial photography and architectural photography.

The consultant provided a range of services to the City and County of Swansea, including QS, procurement management, project management, CM coordinator services and facilities management. The team included Powell Dobson Architects, engineer Ove Arup & Partners, Hoare Lea who provided M&E services, and contractors Andrew Scott and Laing O’Rourke.

Run by not for profit trust Bay Leisure, the LC is expected to attract up to a million visitors a year up from 200,000 in 2003.

The main contract is £22.2 million with additional costs such as enabling works and state-of-the-art equipment fit-out taking the total cost to £32 million. New environmentally-friendly features including a biomas boiler and backwash heating recovery system will reduce fuel needs and carbon emissions to reduce running costs.
