A family-run German company now in its third generation, Huf Haus specialises in prefabricated timber post-and-beam houses. There is an entire village of Huf showhomes near Cologne to help clients choose designs. These are strikingly contemporary houses, open plan with plenty of glass, and distinctive pitched roofs illustrated in the commercial photography and architectural photography.
Each one is designed by computer and constructed on a reinforced concrete box, which makes the basement. The sections are built to millimetre precision with all the wiring fitted in the walls. They are made to order in Huf's factory near Bonn, and shipped in component parts, like a giant jigsaw puzzle, to be rapidly assembled on site.
Johann Huf founded HUF HAUS in Hartenfels, Germany, as a carpentry business in 1912. The business has grown
substantially over the past three generations, but it remains very much a family enterprise. Now run by Johann’s grandson, Peter Huf, it has retained its personal touch – Peter himself is among a team of professionals that will visit a proposed site and discuss precise needs with a client such as the one illustrated in the commercial photography and architectural photography. Their success is obvious; HUF HAUS now has 12 offices in Germany, two in Switzerland, and one in Austria, France and the UK.
