Stamford used to be a major stopping point during the days of stage coaches but it missed out on the London-Edinburgh railway (which went through Peterborough & Grantham instead), so its pre-railway buildings have survived and there was no Victorian industrialisation. The buildings in St George's Square were the centre of the BBC filming for Middlemarch.
The new Wharf Road development illustrated in the commercial photography and architectural photography, therefore had to be sympathetic to it's historic surroundings and yet create a contemporary feel for what is aspirational housing - it's a success. The blend of traditional stonework, bold terracotta and airy glass brick access towers work well.
