There are many examples of science parks where the design of the buildings are purely driven by efficient office space planning, building economics and fire strategy illustrated by the commercial photography and architectural photography.  These buildings are designed without any concern for or interaction with the parkland within which they sit.  These buildings are always described as 'new' in their commercial photography, architectural photography and marketing but they are normally predictable, rectangular and are definately in 2 dimensions with no 3-D spaces.

Blueprint (a new 50:50 joint venture between the East Midlands Development Agency, English Partnerships and Morley Fund Management's Igloo Regeneration Fund) wanted to make a socially responsible science park.  One that is outward looking, not introvert - an approach easily captured by a commercial photographer.  That embraces and feeds it's surroundings, from University boating lake to the ecology of Dunkirk pond; and from the tennis centre to the business centre.  A science park that is responsive to the nature of the site in which it resides, slopes, pools, drains and brook shown in the architectural photography.  That has spaces for learning, running, meetings, lunching, parties, daydreaming, romancing, a stage for evening lectures and concerts, an exhibition space for conferences, a boardwalk, a pier to fish from, a bus stop, a cafe, an environment centre that explains the rare plants.  Science parks CAN be fun and make great commercial photography and architectural photography images.

Studio Egret West Architects have designed a green structure incorporating a brown roof that over time will encourage biodiversity, an urban drainage system covered with wooden decking lily pads, undercroft parking to minimise street paving and a biomass heating system as illustrated in the architectural photography.

The development has won Property Weeks Design Led Project of the Year.
